25 -26 October 2007
Makati City, PhilippinesOrganised by the GRP-Department of Justice (DOJ) and theCommission on Information Communication Technology (CICT) in cooperation with the Council of Europe (COE).
Rationale
Cybercrime is a modern global phenomenon that needs international cooperation among state parties. One key area is the passage of national legislation that aligns legal systems to set the agenda for cyber security and protection. Such legislation (draft cybercrime bill) is currently under discussion in the Philippines. At the international level, the Convention on Cybercrime (the Budapest Convention on the Council of Europe of 2001) provides a guideline for the development of national legislation and a framework for international cooperation against cybercrime.
Participants
Expected output
At the end of the workshop, the cybercrime bill would have been fully discussed with stakeholders ready to endorse the final copy to respective entities. A joint statement may be made urging speedy congressional action.
I believe any sort of crime to be an act predisposed by opportunity… the internet like anything else is an opportunity, the internet being one of the biggest industries and commercial avenues is not spared from people who see opportunities in the non-legal sense….
.. and for someone who makes a living online like me that’s cause for concern especially if there are no laws that protect me…
credit card fraud and identity theft for one is still rampant, despite robust and more secure payment facilities online ..
you might find my post about this interesting, you can read it on http://roysencio.com/internetmarketing/identity-theft/credit-card-fraud-and-identity-theft-how-to-avoid-it/
