JCI - Manila, Manila: Our common future
By attysy on Aug 17, 2007 in Op-ed Columns
That the Manila Jaycees and the Manila Times should once again find each other and come together is as natural as the rising of the sun. The partnership was forged long ago to document pioneering projects by dedicated young entrepreneurs, now, captains of industry and leaders of note. The same tradition continues to inspire and will enthusiastic men in the 21st century to strive to better themselves through the Junior Chamber (JC). The organization is after all about leadership training.
Aside from regular updates on centerpiece programs like the Mother Teresa Award, Best Business Plan Competition, TOYM Awards, Patrol 117 Recognition Day and others which have entered mainstream society and become part of our community life, this weekly page will capture the sentiments and views of enthusiastic professionals, businessmen and academics aged 18 to 40.
Representing the proverbial middle force, the JCI Manila members will express their opinions and take stands on issues of national interest and significance. The call for involvement has never been more relevant. Thus, and soon, we will take a poll on the preferred candidates for the Senate. We will also issue statements that hopefully will reflect the various perspectives and yet point towards a common goal that is undoubtedly for the best in the long run.
“Partisan we will not be; principled we are. Participatory we may be; politics never.” This is the core theme.
In the meantime, we shall run our training programs as if there is no tomorrow. Our heart and soul, the vanguard leader’s training, continues to move people in and out of the JC movement. Projects will focus not only on fishing for a day but to be fishers of men. Fellowships will serve as avenues for personal growth and greater awareness. The publications team will articulate the interests and actions of the organization to a wider audience through a national daily and other preferred channels of communication.
The Manila Jaycee and Manila Times partnership indeed is a realized vision of a common future: ours.
