Emerging ICT Law Issues and Trends: Its Impact on Business

This one-day interactive course gives a comprehensive review of the rule of law in the country. Participants are quickly drawn into new and specific legal issues focused on ICT that affect their families, business organization or organization and society at large. Solutions and modern approaches are presented for comparative analysis and for insights into emerging trends.
Hot and pressing topics that impact companies are discussed including internet libel, phising and phreaking, business scams, syndicated estafa, bank and corporate fraud, email harassment and electronic evidence in general. A dynamic framework with facilitation techniques is used to process ideas and cases for real world experience.
Objectives
A successful participant will:
1. Understand the concept of “Rule of Law” as a legal system applied in the country and the technical IT law terms specially for business.
2. Identify and address ICT related concerns focused the business and to solve novel or recurring issues affecting the organization using the standard of electronic evidence.
3. Develop an awareness of relevant laws and emerging trends to stay ahead in the industry including specific ICT related concerns like internet libel, identity theft, email and right to privacy standard, electronic evidence.

b. Business / companies (i.e. intellectual property, HR policy, employer-
employee disputes, company secrets)
c. Society (i.e. cybercrime, ICT age)
Faculty write-up
Geronimo L. Sy, J.D., M.P.M., D.P.A. (Can.) is a State Prosecutor with the Department of Justice, an ICT law professor with the FEU Institute of Law and a lecturer at the Ateneo School of Law on special subjects. He represents the country in various international conferences and legal fora like the APEC, United Nations Institute for Training and Research and the International Commission on Jurists. He conducts local training programs on new statutes and sets up task forces to enhance the “Rule of Law” and to advocate civil liberties.
He successfully prosecuted the first two cyber crime cases – hacking and call center theft. He has written several papers and his recent publications include “Foundations of Prosecution” and ” Atty. Sy is also a weekly columnist of The Manila Times and hosts a regular radio program on justice issues.
